The Commission on Global Social Work Education works with other international organizations, including the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), to promote international programs and projects and to develop the international dimension of the social work curricula. The commission also is responsible for advising the Foreign Equivalency Determination Service and for maintaining relationships with foreign students and schools.

Commission's Charge
The commission's charge, as per the CSWE bylaws, includes, but is not limited to:
- Further the international/global agenda of CSWE
- Assist in the growth and development of the Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education (KAKI)
- Provide leadership to the organization in global social work education and research
- Collaborate with complementary international organizations
- Encourage the development and inclusion of an international dimension in social work curricula
The role of the commission is based in the following charges from the bylaws:
- Setting direction for the commission and councils through the development of a Strategic Plan and White Paper, and through consultation with other Commissions, Councils, the CSWE Board of Directors, KAKI, and other international organizations such as IASSW and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW)
- Setting a Research Agenda in collaboration with the Kendall Institute
- Organizing the International Symposia at the CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM)
- Organizing the Partners in the International Social Work Education Awards
- Leadership in the implementation of the global perspective in the curriculum
- Identifying resources to implement goals of the Global Commission
- Reviewing and taking action on Council recommendations
- Making recommendations to the Board of Directors and Councils
