CSWE has been awarded a subcontract from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop, implement, and evaluate mental health recovery-oriented training materials for social work educators and practitioners. The 5-year initiative will increase the mental health recovery training resources available to social workers. This project is part of a larger initiative by SAMHSA to aid the behavioral health workforce.

CSWE joins SAMHSA in recognizing that those with substance use or mental disorders can recover to lead meaningful, fulfilling, and healthy lives. As part of this outlook, CSWE recently signed a Recovery to Practice (RTP) Joint Resolution expressing its commitment to integrate the mental health recovery model within social work education and practice.

The Recovery to Practice Steering Committee most recently met on September 29–30, 2011, at the CSWE offices in Alexandria, VA.
