Experiential activities will be included in the first social work course, Introduction to Social Work, in which students will participate in discussions with a panel of elders.  During Human Behavior & the Social Environment II, students will conduct an assessment of an elder. In History of Social Welfare, oral histories, ethnic potluck meals, and guest speakers will provide content. Students will have an opportunity for placement at a facility serving seniors during the 45 required hours of volunteer service. In Practice I, students will conduct a thorough strengths-based assessment of a senior. In Practice II, students will create a group curriculum appropriate for use with older adults. In Practice III, focus groups on the interests of seniors in an Exploritas adventure and an Asset-Based Community Assessment will be conducted. In Policy, students will conduct an analysis on a policy designed for older adults. The Research Methods course will provide students an opportunity for conducting original research with an older adult, such as a case study. Seminar I will utilize a practice-based multi-level case assessment during the time students are placed in the field. Our elective, Social Work Practice with Older Adults is taught every fall semester and will include a life review, pairing a student and an elder. Finally, the student social work organization will conduct community tours, host visits with elders both on and off campus, have an interactive movie night, and engage in other appropriate activities. Specifically, the organization will help to develop the framework for an Exploritas program on this campus, using results of the focus groups and the networking that has been accomplished through the above activities.  Students will participate in planning and delivery of Exploritas.
