Humboldt State

Humboldt State University’s Cycle 2 BEL Program will invite eight elders from local indigenous tribes to interact with all junior students in our undergraduate program. Elders will visit the practice methods course to spend time with students in small group sessions during which they will explore practice behaviors related to addressing respectfully the cultural, spiritual and ethnic values and beliefs of older adults and their families. Students will also spend time with older adults through small group work in their policy and research classes.  Students will hear stories of the rich histories and experiences lived out by our guests in relation to the work that social workers have done in their communities and they will increase their comfort with older adults through exposure, interaction, listening, and asking questions in a supportive setting.
