George Mason University will incorporate several new experiential activities and expand several that are already in place. In the Introduction to Social Work class students will have a guest speaker who works with older adults. Students in this class will also have a new assignment that will require that students do an extensive audio or video interview with either a veteran in the National Veteran's History Project, a member of AARP, an adult in a retirement community, or a member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Interview summaries will be shared in class. In the Communications class, additional junior level placements will be developed in agencies serving older adults to expand those already used. New scenarios for videotaping will be added that will allow students to play the role of an older adult or interview an older adult. This class will also invite an older adult from the community for students to interview. The senior research class will use the audio and videotapes of interviews conducted by the Introduction to Social Work class to code and analyze the data in order to enhance their qualitative research methods.
