The Council on Social Work Education was a proud sponsor of the 28th Annual Social Work Day at the United Nations held on March 27, 2011. The program began with touching tributes to Katherine A. Kendall, a founding member and former executive director of CSWE, and David Roth, a founding member of the International Federation of Social Workers' (IFSW’s) United Nations (UN) team and former executive director of the Jewish Child Care Association. Both passed away in 2010.
Representatives from the International Association of Schools of Social Work, IFSW, and the International Council on Social Welfare gave an update on the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. The final draft of the document will be unveiled at the 2012 UN Social Work Day.
The audience was then addressed by Robert Huber from the division of Social Policy and Development at the UN. Presentations followed that addressed child trafficking and the girl child, innovations in intergenerational social work, and climate change.
