Over the last several months, the focus of CSWE’s Public Policy Initiative has been dominated by health care reform. As you know, President Obama and Congressional leaders have made health care reform a top domestic priority this year and have been moving quickly to develop and debate their proposals. CSWE has been actively participating in this debate to ensure that social work education, training and research have a place in the next generation health care enterprise.
While the debate in recent weeks has centered on the fate of the proposed “public option,” resulting in asummer full of heated town hall meetings on the topic, CSWE continues to push for the education piece of reform, urging House and Senate members to include programs such as training and loan forgiveness in their respective health care bills.
