Mission
The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) provides mentorship and training to ethnical minority social work professionals, preparing them for leadership roles in mental health research and in the delivery of mental health services. MFP accomplishes this by supporting students in completing their doctoral degrees in the field of social work.
The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Fellowship Program (MHSAFP)
The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Fellowship Program is designed for social workers, with a social work Masters degree, who are preparing for leadership, teaching, consulting, training, policy development, and administration in mental health and substance abuse with ethnic minorities. The purpose of the program is to increase the number of ethnic minorities with doctoral degrees in social work education and to insure their active participation in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of mental health and substance abuse programs that provide culturally competent services to racial and ethnic minorities.
Funds for the Mental Health Fellowship Program are provided by Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) announces the appointment of Dr. Geraldine L. Meeks as director of the MFP, effective June 2010. Dr. Meeks received her PhD in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in December 2009. She was an MFP fellow (2004–2007) during the time of her graduate work. Dr. Meeks brings a wealth of experience to this position including teaching, practice, administration, and advocacy work. The MFP warmly welcomes her to the Program and to CSWE.
The Minority Fellowship Program extends whole hearted appreciation to Dr. Jenny Jones for her years of dedication and service to the Program and to CSWE. The MFP wishes her all the best as she returns to her faculty position at VCU.
