Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders

Chair: Monit Cheung
Cochair: Kui-Hee Song

This Track covered the following themes: (1) critical analysis of social work theories and practices in Asian contexts; (2) advancing the knowledge base and application of cultural competence in social work practice with Asian populations; and (3) the meaning of indigenizing social work in Asian communities, considering culture as the core to social work practice in Asian communities. The goal of the Asian American/Pacific Islander Track activities is to bridge the eastern and western philosophies/paradigms toward social work, seeking to identify (evidence-based and/or culturally competent) social work practice that encourages new and different paradigms toward social work and social welfare.
