Rural Issues

Chair: Peggy Pittman-Munke
Cochair: Pending

This Track seeks to showcase issues related to education and practice related to rural issues. Often papers and presentations at APM relate primarily to urban issues. There is a real need to bring together people who have interest in diverse areas related to rurality. These include but are not limited to special issues related to education including recruitment and retention of faculty, the development of field agencies, and values and ethical issues that are unique to rural practice. Other issues discussed are community and economic development, dealing with diversity (or lack of diversity), agency and board development in rural communities, the need for regional collaboration and networking, and the development of political influence around social economic issues that are important to rural areas. Further areas of interest are the changing complexion of rural areas and the increasing complexity of service to what is becoming a highly diverse population in some rural areas.
