Needha Boutté-Queen—Panelist
Texas Southern University

Needha Boutté-Queen’s perspective as an adopted, bi-racial, self-identified African American female who has worked in predominantly White academic institutions, with at-risk child welfare populations, and now in a historically Black university brings a valuable educator perspective to this panel. She has taught diversity courses both in the private sector and at a university. In addition, she has been active in research that addresses social workers’ knowledge of diverse at-risk populations, including transgender persons. Boutté-Queen is currently an associate professor of social work at Texas Southern University, where she also serves as department chair. Her community-related diversity efforts include having worked as the diversity representative for the NASW Delegate Assembly (2008–2009), appointment to the NASW Texas Diversity and Affirmative Action Critical Advisory Task Force (2009), and working as an active member of the NASW-TX Chapter Committee on Diversity.
