Leer da Poder/Reading Empowers Book Drive

Multicultural children’s literature up to the 3rd grade level is essential, considering that reading by then is extremely important as a predictor of future academic success or risk. To that end, CSWE hosted a book drive entitled Leer da Poder, Reading Empowers, at its 55th Annual Program Meeting!

Coordinated through the 2009 APM Regional Planning Committee, this service project aspired to assist in reducing San Antonio’s illiteracy and functional illiteracy rates which are both 12.5%.

Attendees were encouraged to browse the multicultural children’s literature sections of bookstores.
