Katharine Cahn, MSW, PhD has been the executive director of the Child Welfare Partnership at Portland State University’s School of Social Work since October 2004. Prior to that, Cahn served for 15 years as director of a child welfare research and training center at the University of Washington School of Social Work. Cahn has been the principal investigator of multiple children’s bureau training grants as well as privately funded projects to improve child welfare services. She is currently principle investigator for the Leadership Academy for Mid-Level Managers, a project of the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute of the Children’s Bureau. With more than 25 years’ experience in child welfare training, education, and research, Cahn can comment on finding nontenure positions in social work education, and the dynamics of such a career.
