Morning Preconference Workshops

FDIs

A Faculty Development Institute (FDI) is a preconference workshop in which individuals with special expertise share information for the purpose of enhancing the knowledge and skills of social work educators. It focuses on topics in social work education with a broad appeal for the development of knowledge and skills.

A. Culturally Competent Practice With Hispanics: Challenges and Opportunities

Addressing mental health conditions in Hispanics is a critical public health imperative. Impacted by multiple mental health conditions (e.g., substance abuse, depression), Hispanics are less likely to access services or be properly diagnosed. Social workers must understand Hispanic perceptions of mental illness, identify access strategies, and develop culturally competent services.
