Corinne Rieder

Executive Director and Treasurer | John A. Hartford Foundation

The CSWE 2014 President's Award recognizes significant contributions to the health of older adults and their families by Corinne H. Rieder. Dr. Rieder is executive director and treasurer at the John A. Hartford Foundation, where she has served for 15 years. In that time she has strengthened the capacity of social work education at all levels to respond to our aging society and better understand and care for older adults. Through the John A. Hartford Foundation, Dr. Rieder provided crucial support for social work education through more than $80 million in funding for projects such as the Geriatric Social Work Scholars program, CSWE Gero-Ed Center, Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education, Doctoral Fellows Program, Leadership Academy for Social Work Deans and Directors, and the Hartford Center of Excellence in Geriatric Social Work. The results of her efforts can be seen through the new research centers, certificate programs, and concentrations that have been developed in schools of social work as well as in the number of students and faculty members who have decided to specialize in aging after encountering one of these programs. Further, her influence has broadened to reach all students, because social work curricula has been almost universally infused with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to ensure students are competent to work with older adults and their caregivers.
