In recognition of Mr. Scott's ground-breaking contributions to CSWE and the profession of social work, the Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecture was established to continue the legacy of equity and social justice in social work through building knowledge and furthering the well-being of individuals and their communities. A list of the previous Carl A. Scott Memorial lecturers is available here.

Although this lecture series has been a highlight of the CSWE Annual Program Meeting since the late 1980s, the nominations process was recently redesigned to further embody Mr. Scott's core philosophy and to invite members of the CSWE community to participate in a peer nomination process to select the next Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecturer.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on each nominee’s body of scholarly work demonstrating

  • accomplishments consistent with the values of social work education, research, and practice;
  • a focus on equity, diversity, and social and economic justice;
  • a seminal contribution to human rights in social work education and/or practice; and
  • attention to critical issues of our time.

Submission Process

All nomination submissions must include the following.

  1. 2015 Carl A. Scott Memorial Lecture Cover Sheet; please download the call for nominations document here (Word document) and complete the second page
