CSWE President and CEO Elected to Distinguished Fellowship of NAP Social Work Academy

Darla Spence Coffey Recognized for Outstanding Achievements in Interprofessional Education 

ALEXANDRIA, VA— Darla Spence Coffey, MSW, PhD, president and CEO of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), has been elected as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) Social Work Academy, the NAP’s most honored membership group.

Distinguished Fellows of the NAP Social Work Academy are recognized for exemplary scholarship or social work practice in health and interprofessional collaboration. To qualify, an individual must have an exemplary career of at least 10 years and act as an advocate for accessible, affordable health care for all. Coffey will join the NAP in advancing interprofessional health-care policy and design and will serve as a member of an advisory body on health delivery systems.

Coffey was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow and awarded a NAP medallion during the Gala Banquet at the NAP Annual Meeting & Forum on March 18, 2017.

Four CSWE members also were inducted as Distinguished Fellows of the NAP Social Work Academy:
  • Cora Jackson, MSW, Delta State University (MS)
  • Iris Fineberg, MSW, PhD, Stony Brook University (NY)
  • Shari Miller, MSW, PhD, University of Georgia (GA)
  • Victoria Rizzo, MSW, PhD, Binghamton University (NY)
Coffey and the CSWE members were elected by the NAP Social Work Academy and approved by the NAP Council, comprised of chairs and vice chairs of all 14 academies and the NAP officers.

The NAP is an interdisciplinary group that advises government agencies on health-care policy and advocates for quality health care through collaborative practice, education, and research.
