Call for Submissions: Doctoral Practices and Policies

Special Section on Practices and Policies for Doctoral Education and Leadership

Guest Editors: Cynthia G.S. Franklin (University of Texas at Austin), Elizabeth Lightfoot (University of Minnesota), and Sheryl Zimmerman (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)

The Journal on Social Work Education (JSWE) invites manuscripts for a special section titled Practices and Policies for Doctoral Education and Leadership. Submissions should be scholarly papers addressing relevant issues, innovations, and solutions regarding how to create, manage, and sustain effective doctoral programs, including how to build the capacity of doctoral programs so they are better equipped to prepare graduates for careers in social work education. Systematic reviews of the literature and empirical and conceptual papers that discuss the challenges of and solutions to doctoral program leadership, capacity building, and pedagogy will be considered for the special section.
Article Topics
Following is a sample of possible topics:

  • Issues of program administration
  • Building culture and climate of programs for millennials and diverse students
  • Admissions and resources such as recruiting students and providing financial support
  • Student preparation such as curriculum, mentoring, research preparation, and practice experience
  • Student products such as types of dissertations and publications
  • Career services and pathways such as job market trends and finding a job

Submissions and Timeline 
Manuscripts submitted for the special section will be peer reviewed and should follow the submission guidelines for JSWE. See JSWE’s Author Instructions for complete information. Final decisions on acceptance of the articles will be made by the guest editors.
