As climate change, natural disasters, and public health crises grow in frequency and impact, social workers are increasingly called on to respond to complex emergencies. Are today's social work students prepared to meet that call?
Join the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for an introduction to the 2022 EPAS Specialized Practice Curricular Guide on Disaster Relief Social Work. Developed by experts in disaster relief social work, the guide gives social work programs resources to ensure students build the knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes needed to serve communities before, during, and after disaster events. Volume 1 addresses Competencies 1 through 5, including professional and ethical behavior, research, and policy practice in disaster contexts. Volume 2, generously funded by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), completes the guide with Competencies 6 through 9.
Project lead Dr. Stephanie Felder will then walk through how the guide was developed and share examples of how its content can be brought into the classroom and field.
This session is designed for social work faculty, program directors, field educators, and anyone interested in strengthening disaster preparedness and response in social work education. Both volumes are available for download from CSWE.
