CSWE’s leadership and service volunteers play a vital role in advancing the organization’s mission and shaping the future of social work education. CSWE is searching for leaders who are eager to contribute their expertise, expand their professional networks, and help guide critical areas of the profession—from research and global engagement to disability advocacy, women and gender issues, and beyond.
“CSWE offers many meaningful opportunities for members to give back while strengthening their leadership skills and building lasting connections,” said Dr. Jenny Jones, Chair of CSWE’s Board of Directors. “The individuals who serve in these roles are essential to advancing both the work of CSWE and the broader social work profession.”
The open roles detailed in the call for volunteers include:
CSWE is currently accepting applications for three-year appointments beginning July 1, 2026. With dozens of roles available, members can find opportunities aligned with a wide range of professional interests and career stages. An active CSWE membership is required to serve as a volunteer leader.

Council on Social Work Education Announces 2026 Call for Volunteers
CSWE is pleased to announce its 2026 call for volunteers, inviting members to apply for open leadership and service opportunities across CSWE commissions and councils, advisory boards, accreditation services, and initiatives.CSWE’s leadership and service volunteers play a vital role in advancing the organization’s mission and shaping the future of social work education. CSWE is searching for leaders who are eager to contribute their expertise, expand their professional networks, and help guide critical areas of the profession—from research and global engagement to disability advocacy, women and gender issues, and beyond.
“CSWE offers many meaningful opportunities for members to give back while strengthening their leadership skills and building lasting connections,” said Dr. Jenny Jones, Chair of CSWE’s Board of Directors. “The individuals who serve in these roles are essential to advancing both the work of CSWE and the broader social work profession.”
The open roles detailed in the call for volunteers include:
- CSWE’s Commissions and Councils: CSWE has 5 commissions and 12 councils that work to advance the organization’s mission of promoting quality in social work education, each with a specific area of focus.
- Board of Accreditation (BOA): The BOA is responsible for both formulating accreditation standards and determining the criteria and process for evaluating these standards. The BOA's accreditation decisions are accompanied by a reasoned opinion, and the accreditation process is conducted in a manner that ensures the continuation of the BOA’s role as the accrediting body for social work education.
- Accreditation Site Visitors: CSWE-accredited social work programs host site visits as an integral part of the reaffirmation process. Site visitors conduct visits to programs on behalf of the CSWE Board of Accreditation (BOA). The site visitor's role is to be an objective gatherer of information to inform reaffirmation decisions.
- Centers and Institutes: CSWE houses several centers and institutes that support and provide important resources to social work students and educators. These include the Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education, the Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice, and the Minority Fellowship Program.
