Curricular Resources

Curricular Resource on Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)

Curricular Resource on Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)

The Curricular Resource on Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) was developed through a national workforce development initiative to integrate adolescent SBIRT education into social work curriculum through a partnership between CSWE and the NORC at the University of Chicago. Screening, brief ntervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of screening and early intervention for substance use. This resource maps SBIRT education to the nine social work competencies outlined in the 2015 EPAS. Using a competency-based approach, this guide infuses SBIRT content into undergraduate and graduate social work curricula. The development of this guide was supported by funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

It outlines how content on disability aligns with each of the nine 2015 EPAS Social Work competencies and provides specific classroom resources for social work educators. This resource was developed by the Disability-Competent Care Curriculum Workgroup in Collaboration with the Council on Disability and Persons With Disabilities and the Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice, with generous support from Resources for Integrated Care.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression in Social Work Education: Results from a National Survey

A summary of findings from this study follows, along with recommendations for programs and steps CSWE will take to develop resources to assist in this work.
