CSWE Announces 2026 Commissions and Councils Award Recipients

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual Commissions and Councils Awards, recognizing social work scholars, students, and educators whose work advances social work and social work education. These awards will be presented at CSWE’s 72nd Annual Conference in Atlanta, October 22-25, 2026:

The Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Scholarship Award

Presented by the Council on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression (CSOGIE), the SOGIE Scholarship Award recognizes outstanding research that celebrates LGBTQIA+ lives and advances social justice, equity, and inclusion within social work education and practice. This year’s SOGIE Scholarship Award recipient is Shanna K. Kattari, PhD, MEd, CSE. Learn more about the award and Dr. Kattari.

Two-Spirit, Queer and/or Trans People of Color (2-QTPOC) Award

Presented by CSOGIE and the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD), the 2-QTPOC Award recognizes the significant teaching, practice, or service contributions of CSWE member(s) to the two-spirit, queer, transgender, gender non-binary and gender expansive communities of color in programs of social work practice. This year’s 2-QTPOC Award recipient is Trey Jenkins, PhD, MSW. Learn more about the award and Dr. Jenkins.

Community Partnership Action (CPA) Award

Presented by the Commission for Diversity, Social, and Economic Justice (CDSEJ), the CPA award honors the contributions of schools and departments of social work and social work students (PhD, DSW, MSW, or BSW) in advancing community partnership action. This year’s CPA Award for programs goes to HawaiĘ»i Pacific University (HPU) School of Social Work, and the CPA Award for students award goes to Sangmi Kim, MSW. Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work (CORSW) Awards

CORSW presents these awards and recognitions in 2026 (meet this year’s honorees):

  • Feminist Manuscript Award: This award recognizes manuscript authors who draw upon feminist and womanist theory, research methods, educational practices. This year’s Feminist Manuscript Award goes to Ingrid Aarons-Porter, DSW, LMSW.
  • Feminist Scholar Award: This award honors a scholar who advances feminist knowledge, including Womanist and Xicanism perspectives. This year’s Feminist Scholar Award goes to Camille R. Quinn, AM, LCSW, LISW-S, LMSW.
  • Community Impact Award: This award recognizes community practice, which shapes the process of social work education by exemplifying feminist leadership models. This year’s Community Impact Award goes to Kelli Rogers, PhD, MSW, BSW.
  • Violence Against Women and Children Manuscript Award: This award is presented to authors whose work most advances feminist knowledge in the field of violence against women and children. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding scholarship of early career scholars working in the area of violence against women and children in social work education. This year’s winner is Yafan Chen, PhD, MSW.
  • Mentorship Recognitions:
    • Hanni Flaherty, PhD, LCSW, CASAC-M, Clinical Assistant Professor and Chair of Advanced Clinical Practice at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University.
    • Jane Lee, PhD, MSSW, Associate Professor at the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California (USC).
    • Melissa B. Littlefield, PhD, Professor of Social Work and Co-Principal Investigator of the SHIELD Behavioral Health Training Program at Morgan State University
    • Shelita Jackson, DSW, MSW, Director of Undergraduate Studies, University of Kentucky College of Social Work.


Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD) Award

Presented by the CRECD, this award recognizes doctoral students and junior faculty members with outstanding scholarship in the areas of racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity in social work education. This year’s Junior Faculty Award winner is Angie Wootton, PhD, MSW, and the PhD Student Award winner is Sangmi Kim, MSW. Learn more about the CRECD award and this year’s honorees.

 

Disability Manuscript Award

Presented by the Council on Disability and Persons with Disabilities (CDPD), this award recognizes scholarship that advances knowledge about disability and the full participation of people with disabilities; explores related social, political, and economic issues; and contributes curriculum materials for social work education in this area. This year’s  Disability Manuscript Award winner is Alison B. Wetmur, DSW, LCSW. Honorable mention went to Subin Na, MA, LSW. Learn more about the award and this year’s honorees.

 

Partners in Advancing International Education (PIE) Awards

Presented by the Commission on Global Social Work Education (CGSWE) , the PIE Awards honor the contribution of social work faculty members, social work students (PhD, MSW, or BSW), and organizations as partners in advancing education for global social work. The PIE Awards are given in recognition of conceptual, curricular, and programmatic innovations in education for global social work. The 2026 Individual PIE Award winner is Cudore L. Snell, DSW, MSW, the Student PIE Award goes to the study abroad students in University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Social Work, and the Program PIE Award winner is the UArctic Thematic Network on Social Work. CSWE's commissions and councils are served by member volunteer leaders who are appointed for three-year terms by the chairperson of the CSWE Board of Directors. Terms begin on July 1 and end on June 30, per the organization’s fiscal year.
