Each year, members of the JSWE Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) select the best articles from the previous volume year based on the importance and timeliness of the content, originality of thought, innovative conceptualization of the topic, and presentation of conclusions and/or recommendations that add significantly to the professional knowledge base and to social work education.
After a rigorous voting process, the JSWE EAB unanimously selected the article “Behind the Mask of Black Women Social Workers: Workplace Integration, Code-Switching, and the Silent Struggles,” by Collina D. Cooke, Julia F. Hastings, Cecilia M. Hastings, and Nelia M. Quezada-Horne for the 2026 Best Article Award. Dr. Cooke’s award-winning article appeared in volume 61 of the journal, in the special issue titled “Celebrating 50 Years of CSWE’s Minority Fellowship Program: Reflecting on the Program’s Presence and Impact.” Collina D. Cooke, PhD, LCSW-C is CSWE’s executive director of accreditation and the previous director of CSWE’s Minority Fellowship Program.

Jonathan B. Singer, PhD, LCSW, social work professor at Loyola University, was selected by JSWE’s EAB as this year’s Best Reviewer Award recipient, which recognizes outstanding reviewers each year, based on percentage of manuscripts accepted, average time taken to return reviews, and quality of feedback to authors. CSWE and the JSWE EAB would like to thank all the dedicated professionals who generously donate their time and expertise to review manuscripts and thus contribute to the value and success of the journal.
Thanks to a generous contribution by long-time JSWE reviewers and authors, Drs. Leung and Cheung at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, each award includes $500 in recognition for their scholarship. Dr. Cooke, her co-authors, and Dr. Singer will receive their awards at the Publications Reception at CSWE’s 72nd Annual Conference.
