This guidance is based on current recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is subject to change as public health conditions evolve. Attendees should use their best judgment and remain attentive to any updates provided by CSWE in advance of and during the conference. The CDC provides guidance on how to reduce the spread of illnesses such as COVID-19, flu, and other communicable respiratory infections in public settings. CSWE leadership has adapted the following recommendations for attendees of the CSWE Annual Conference (AC).
If you feel sick before AC, what should you do?
- If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, flu, or another respiratory illness (e.g., cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue), we recommend that you do not travel to the conference.
- Please contact [email protected] to discuss registration logistics such as transfers or refunds. If you get sick during AC, what should you do?
- If you begin to feel unwell or notice new symptoms (e.g., cough, sore throat, fatigue), isolate yourself immediately in a private space.
- Wear a mask if you need to be around others. Complimentary masks will be available at registration, booths, ballrooms, and information desks.
- If your symptoms worsen, seek medical evaluation or testing at a local clinic or hospital.
- If you feel notification is necessary, please email [email protected] so the AC team can take appropriate steps, including cleaning protocols.
When is it safe to return to normal activities?
In line with CDC recommendations:
- If you experience a fever, wait until you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before resuming normal activities.
- Resume activities only once symptoms are clearly improving (e.g., cough, sore throat, fatigue are resolving).
How can you prevent illness or infection?
AC attendees are encouraged to adopt the following precautions:
- Hand Hygiene: Wash hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Respiratory Etiquette: Cover coughs and sneezes; use tissues and dispose of them properly.
- Masks: Feel empowered to wear a mask, especially in crowded indoor spaces or if you notice symptoms developing.
- Physical Distancing: Practice distancing when feasible.
- Stay Home or Isolate: If you experience symptoms before the conference, stay home. If you become ill during the conference, isolate until symptoms improve.
