CSWE offers a number of ways for members to get involved in volunteer leadership and service roles. You can serve on one of our distinguished CSWE commissions or councils, volunteer as an accreditation site visitor, join an advisory board, or review fellowship applications for our programs and institutes. The call for these opportunities opens on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and the deadline for member volunteer applications is Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM (ET).

Openings: 3

Especially needed are:
  • an interest and focus in international social work and integrating its concepts in social work education;  
  • willingness and availability to attend Kendall Institute meetings;  
  • willingness and availability to review Kendall grant applications;   
  • representatives of diverse groups representing CSWE membership.

Center for Diversity and Social & Economic Justice Advisory Board

Openings: 2

Skill set needed:

  • full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-accredited or candidate social work program
  • an interest and focus in promoting individual, family, and community well-being and social and economic justice
  • expertise regarding the center's needs, such as input on topics and presenters
  • be an active CSWE member (included for faculty and administrators of CSWE member programs)

Minority Fellowship Program Advisory Board

Openings: 5 MSW, 5 Doctoral
Skill set needed:

  • Be a full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-accredited or candidate social work program; or be a licensed social worker
  • Possess experience or interest in academia, clinical services, and research serving racial/ethnic minority populations;
  • Willingness and availability to attend MFP Advisory Board meetings and to meet to discuss MFP applications;
  • Maintain current CSWE membership (included for faculty and administrators of CSWE member programs)

Gero-Ed Advisory Board

Openings: 6
Skill set needed:

  • Be a full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-accredited or candidate program; professionals engaged in aging education in social work or a related discipline may be considered.
  • Demonstrate an interest and commitment to advancing aging content in social work education.
  • Be willing and available to attend Advisory Board meetings.
  • Be willing and available to review applications or contribute to Center projects as needed.
  • Faculty and administrators must be active CSWE members.

Accreditation Leadership and Service Opportunities 

 

Board of Accreditation

Openings: 6-10 

Skill set needed:

  • hold full-time faculty or administrative appointment in a CSWE-BOA accredited or candidate social work program, or a new applicant practice doctorate program, so long as the individual holds an active CSWE membership either individual or program.
  • possess a minimum of 5-years teaching in a CSWE-BOA accredited or candidate program, or a practice doctorate program planning to seek accreditation
  • recent experience as a CSWE site visitor, having conducted at least three site visits under the 2015 or 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards
  • demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development and accreditation procedures
  • Commit to:
    • attending three meetings annually (1-2 in person)
    • reviewing 25–35 program accreditation documents electronically annually;
    • conducting up to 3 visits for candidacy programs annually; and
    • serving on BOA committees.
Encouraged to apply:
  • Experience as an administrator, educator, or student, in social work practice doctorate program(s).
  • Fluency in Spanish & English, including the ability to review program materials and conduct visits in Spanish and English.

Accreditation Site Visitor

Openings: 20

Skill set needed:

  • be a current or former full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-BOA accredited or candidate social work program, or a new applicant practice doctorate program, so long as the individual holds an active CSWE membership either individual or program.
  • have continued engagement in teaching and learning at a CSWE-accredited or candidate program
  • be an active CSWE member (included with program membership);
  • possess at least 3-years of teaching experience in a CSWE-accredited social work program; and
  • be willing to conduct at minimum one (1) site visit every two (2) academic years.

Encouraged to apply:

  • Experience as an administrator, educator, or student, in social work practice doctorate program(s).
  • Fluency in Spanish & English, including the ability to review program materials and conduct visits in Spanish and English.

Commission for Diversity and Social and Economic Justice

Openings: 3

Skill set needed:

  • knowledge of equity; inclusion; and social, economic, and environmental justice; leadership toward inclusive excellence in social work education
  • especially encouraged to apply are members of the Native American and Latinx communities; diverse regional representation is preferred

Council on Disability and Persons With Disabilities

Openings: 4

Skill set needed:

  • capacity to develop educational materials or initiatives to support full societal inclusion of disabled people and dismantle oppression experienced by people with disabilities
  • readiness to assume a share of tasks associated with carrying out the council’s strategic initiatives
  • deep understanding of the diversity of people with disabilities and its intersectionality with other aspects of diversity
  • availability to participate in:
    • annual council meeting (held in conjunction with the CSWE's Annual Conference; traditionally in-person)
    • winter virtual meeting (typically mid–late January)
    • virtual meetings of work group(s) to carry out the tasks associated with the council’s strategic initiatives

Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity

Openings: 4

Skill set needed:

  • knowledge and expertise in various issues pertaining to racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity, including intersectionality, interdisciplinary work, and diversity of racial/ethnic populations
  • commitment to active engagement in council projects throughout the year
  • commitment to participate in meetings throughout the year, most importantly the annual business meeting held during CSWE's Annual Conference

Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education

Openings: 6

Members with an interest in the council’s charge are needed who have willingness and time to: 

  • uplift the voices and work of people who identify as women from all racial/ethnic backgrounds and diverse identities in social work education;
  • further develop the availability of social work education curriculum materials and faculty development opportunities related explicitly to feminism and womanism;
  • recommend policy statements, procedures, and activities that advance inclusion and affirmation within social work education of people who identify as women;
  • facilitate mentorship of students and junior faculty who identify as women through their careers and educational journeys and help lift them to positions of leadership within social work education; and
  • identify and advocate for change of any policies, procedures, or activities that impede full and affirming participation within CSWE and social work education by people who identify as women.

Council on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression

Openings: 5

Members are needed who:

  • have willingness and time to serve on subgroups, complete educational projects, and contribute to the bimonthly conference calls; and
  • represent racial and ethnic minorities, transgender and gender queer populations, and LGBTQ persons with disabilities.

Skill set needed:

  • administrative experience (deans/directors/chairs/associate deans)
  • understanding and interest in higher education trends
  • representatives from Minority Serving Institutions' programs or representatives from small BSW programs is desired

  • are interested in the development and growth of leadership in social work education;

  • have strong publication records,
  • have time available to review and discuss manuscripts submitted for publication by CSWE Press,

  • representatives of baccalaureate, master's and doctoral social work programs who have a passion for the teaching and conduct of research related to social work education;

  • representatives of diverse groups.
