Gero-Ed Advisory Board

Overview 

The Gero-Ed Center for Teaching and Learning in Aging supports educators, students, and professionals in advancing gerontological social work education. The Center provides teaching and learning resources for: 

  • Social work educators and students preparing to practice with aging populations. 
  • Social work programs seeking specialized resources in aging-related practice. 
  • Professionals across disciplines engaged in aging-related teaching and learning. 

The Center aims to strengthen aging content across curricula, foster interprofessional collaboration, and promote excellence in preparing the future workforce to meet the needs of older adults and their families.

Primary Functions 

The Advisory Board provides guidance to ensure the Gero-Ed Center’s activities reflect the needs of the field and advance aging education. Members will: 
  • Advise and participate in the Center’s priorities, programming, and resource development. 
  • Promote integration of aging-focused content in social work and related curricula. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to support aging-related teaching and learning. 

Advisory Board Meetings 

Board members are expected to attend at least four meetings annually: 
  1. An in-person meeting during the CSWE Annual Conference, pending conference space
  2. Approximately three virtual meetings per year  

Application and Program Review 

Advisory Board members may be invited to review applications for Center-supported programs, fellowships, or resource development projects to ensure alignment with the Center’s mission and commitment to excellence. 

Center Projects and Initiatives 

The Gero-Ed Center may conduct seminars and host discussions on timely issues in aging education. Advisory Board members are expected to provide expertise and participate in initiatives when requested. 

Eligibility 

Advisory Board members must: 
  • Be a full- or part-time social work faculty member at a CSWE-accredited or candidate program; professionals engaged in aging education in social work or a related discipline may be considered.  
  • Demonstrate an interest and commitment to advancing aging content in social work education. 
  • Be willing and available to attend Advisory Board meetings. 
  • Be willing and available to review applications or contribute to Center projects as needed. 
  • Faculty and administrators must be active CSWE members. 

Application 

Applicants must complete the online application form. Applications are open each spring. The application includes a brief statement of interest and an uploaded CV. 

Appointment 

Applications will be evaluated for qualifications, expertise, and to ensure a diverse and well-rounded group of volunteers in alignment with CSWE’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy Statement. 

Advisory Board members will be appointed to 3-year terms, with the option to renew upon expiration of the term. Notifications of selection will be sent by mid-June. Note: To ensure future continuity, appointments for the first-year Gero Ed Advisory Board will be staggered.
