Annual Survey of Social Work Programs

Each year, CSWE’s Annual Survey of Social Work Programs collect essential data on trends, challenges, and innovations in social work education across the United States. Completed in collaboration with CSWE member programs, these reports offer timely insights into enrollment, student and faculty demographics, curriculum changes, field placements, and more. They are a valuable resource for faculty, program leaders, researchers, and policymakers seeking to understand and strengthen social work education.

The 2025-2026 Annual Survey of Social Work Programs: Now Live!

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Division of Education is pleased to announce the deployment of the 2025 – 2026 Annual Survey of Social Work Programs will take place on March 6, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET. 

The Annual Survey of Social Work Programs collects information about social work programs, students, graduates, and faculty members. The data collected through this survey shapes the future of social work education through research, program planning, and advocacy efforts across the field and beyond.

Submitted data should be based on the 2025–2026 academic year, except for graduation data, which should be based on students who graduated between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.

The 2025-2026 Annual Survey will be sent to the primary contacts of all CSWE-accredited programs (including doctorate programs) and contacts research doctorate programs in March, 2026.

The 2023–2024 Annual Survey of Social Work Programs: Now Available!

CSWE is excited to present the 2023-2024 Social Work Education in the United Sates: Summary of the Annual Survey of Social Work Programs report to our membership and the public for dissemination. The 23-24 Annual Survey received 659 total program responses (374 BSW, 225 MSW, 8 DSW, and 52 PhD) which represents over 98,600 students and 10,800 faculty. 

This report includes comprehensive and current information on the state of social work education and is used to inform policy decisions, identify issues and trends, and assist in social work education research. The summary report provides a broad picture of social work programs and their offerings, including:

  • students and graduates at all program levels,
  • enrollment numbers,
  • degree conferral rates,
  • graduate loan debt information, and
  • Faculty information.

​​Data collection for the 2023-2024 Annual Survey took place between March 2024 and June 2024. The Annual Survey was administered by program level in two parts, Part I consisted of student enrollment, graduation, and programmatic data, and Part II consisted of a Faculty Survey.

2024-2025 Annual Survey

The 2024-2025 Annual Survey of Social Work Programs is now closed and a report of findings will be published in 2026.

The Annual Survey of Social Work Programs collects information about social work programs, students, graduates, and faculty members. The data collected through this survey shapes the future of social work education through research, program planning, and advocacy efforts across the field and beyond.

Submitted data should be based on the 2024–2025 academic year, except for graduation data, which should be based on students who graduated between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.

The 2024-2025 Annual Survey will be sent to the primary contacts of all CSWE-accredited programs and contacts for practice doctorate and research doctorate programs on March 6, 2025. If your program needs to update its primary program contacts, please complete the Program Record Update form to ensure accurate information in our database.
