Leadership Institute

The CSWE Leadership Institute in Social Work Education, developed by the Council on Leadership Development (CLD), is made up of three programs designed to promote future leaders in social work education, higher education, and the social work profession.

Leadership Institute Pins pictureThe CSWE Program Director Academy is a leadership certificate program for current baccalaureate and master’s program directors who have been in their positions less than 3 years. The program offers participants a greater understanding of leadership strengths, skills, and management tools to successfully engage in their program director responsibilities and job functions.

The CSWE Leadership Scholars in Social Work Education Program provides targeted education, training, and mentoring to future leaders to prepare them for roles such as associate and full professors, program directors, and deans. The program combines the Leadership Institute in Social Work Education with Summer Leadership Scholarship programs.

The CSWE Leadership Networking Reception, held at the CSWE Annual Program Meeting, was created in partnership with the New York Academy of Medicine Social Work Leadership Institute and was implemented to support, encourage, and honor new leadership in the profession.

The CLD is the volunteer body responsible for the administrative guidance and promotion of the CSWE Leadership Institute. It is responsible for policy-setting for programs and services related to the development of leaders in social work education. The CLD is part of the Commission on Membership and Professional Development.
